Frequently Asked Questions
I am a Massage Therapist and a member of the Canadian Massage and Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association (CMMOTA). My treatments are covered by most benefits packages. You will be given an insurance receipt at the end of your treatment. Please note you are responsible for obtaining the details of your insurance plan.
Massage can help release muscular tension, soreness and pain, improve circulation, increase joint mobility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue and improve posture. Massage is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety, and create an overall sense of well-being.
Prior to treatment, a thorough intake is conducted to customize treatment based on your specific goals. In a general your session may start with broad massage techniques to warm up the tissues and to help your body relax. As your body unwinds, the pressure will gradually increased and techniques will become more specific and precise. Please communicate immediately if anything about your treatment needs to be changed, such as pressure or if you feel uncomfortable. Massage is most effective when your body is not resisting.
Your comfort is my priority. Whether you choose to be nude under the sheets, fully clothed or somewhere in between, this is your choice. I will leave the room while you undress, relax on the table, and cover yourself with the clean sheets. Secure draping, bolstering and body positioning is maintained to ensure you feel safe during treatment. Prior to treatment, we communicate what areas will be treated and only these areas being worked on will be uncovered when being treated.
There is benefits to relaxing and taking a moment to connect with how your body is feeling. As your therapist, I am focused on the treatment, how your body is responding. I may check in with you on occasion or ask relevant questions that help the overall massage. Feel free to ask any questions relating to the treatment. Some people feel more comfortable conversing through parts of their session. I will only make conversation if my clients ask me questions and will discontinue talking if you no longer ask questions.
I hand-select gentle piano, guitar or instrumental music that is peaceful enough to relax to but not boring or dreary. Please let me know if you have a different music preference. I have access to Spotify music services.
The treatment time you book allows for that amount of hands-on time. The average full-body general massage lasts approximately one hour. When a specific area needs more treatment focus, typically a sixty-minute treatment only allows for half-body treatment. Your massage appointment time you selected (30/60/75/90 minutes) provides you with this amount of hands-on treatment. Please allow an extra 20 minutes on top of your appointment time to go over the health intake, changing, payment and post-massage exercise plan when applicable.
Yes and sometimes modifications are necessary. That’s why it’s imperative that, before treatment, you inform me of any new and old health conditions and current medications that you are taking; regardless if you think it relates to your treatment.
